Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information this site collects, why, where it is kept and how to have it removed. It is written plainly on purpose.

The Kimmies is a parody. The titles are fictional. The data collection described below is not.

Who is responsible

This site is operated by [legal entity name and ACN] of [registered business address]. Questions, corrections and deletion requests go to [contact email].

What is collected

Only what you type into a form. There are three cases.

• Claiming a title. Your name, email address, the town you enter, and the title the assessment assigns you. Your name and title appear publicly in the registry for 14 days while provisional, and permanently once ratified. Your email address never appears publicly.
• The Dispatch. Your first name and email address, plus a note of which part of the site you signed up from.
• Registering interest in a book. Your name, email address and which book.

Assessment answers are held in your own browser and are not sent anywhere unless you go on to claim a title.

What is not collected

No payment details — there is no checkout at present, and when there is, payments will be handled by a payment provider and card numbers will never reach this site. No accounts, no passwords, no tracking of you across other websites, and no sale or sharing of your details with anyone for marketing.

Where it is stored

In a hosted database provided by Neon, and served through Vercel. Both may process and store data outside Australia, including in the United States. Server logs generated by the hosting provider may include your IP address for a limited period.

How long it is kept

Provisional registry entries are public for 14 days, then retained privately unless ratified. Ratified entries are intended to be public permanently. You can ask for either kind of record to be removed. Dispatch and book-interest records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email [contact email] and it will be actioned. There is no charge.

If you are unhappy with how a request was handled, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Analytics

This site uses two analytics tools.

Google Analytics measures how many people visit and where they arrive from. It sets cookies on your device (named _gaand similar), and the information it collects is sent to Google, which may use it across its own services. You can opt out for every site using Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser.

PostHogmeasures how the site is used — where people give up part-way through the assessment, and which buttons and links get clicked. It sets no cookies, records no video of your session, and honours your browser’s Do Not Track setting.

It records which pages were visited, which question number an answer was given on, whether a claim succeeded or failed, and which buttons and links were clicked.

The pages that display personal information — your certificate, the claim form, My Record, the public register and the Bureau console — are excluded from that click tracking, so names, email addresses, titles and registration numbers are not collected by it. Neither are the answers you gave in the assessment. PostHog may process this information outside Australia.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies, as described above. Nothing else on this site does, and none are used to show you advertising here.

Some information is also stored in your browser’s local storage — your assessment result and certificate, so they survive a page refresh, and an anonymous identifier used by PostHog. That stays on your device and is cleared when you clear your browser data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. See also the terms of use.
